Our Story

Our founder, Dea Lott, relied on the beauty and spiritual strength of her Black American family, culture, and community to excel beyond the hardship and oppression she experienced as an impoverished teen mother to became a social justice attorney working with impoverished communities.

After more than a decade in the legal field, working as a law clerk, attorney, legal trainer, supervisor, and law professor, Dea understood that her work was doing very little to strengthen her community or advance the cultural and social changes that our communities need.  And, after experiencing racism that forced her out of her last legal position, she realized that the divisive nature of the political and legal system could never truly address the spiritual crisis that has caused the pervasive and systemic economic, educational, health, and environmental inequities and harms faced by her own and other impoverished communities around the world.

But, from the Black Spiritual Tradition in which she was raised, her study of human history and movements, and her twenty years as a student of yoga, she learned and experienced how spiritual philosophy and practices can heal, strengthen, unite, and transform both individuals and communities to create a more healthy and peaceful existence and way of life.

Inspired by the many leaders who relied on faith to guide their service to humanity, she created Che Yoga LLC (now DivineSense) and left her legal career in 2018 – without any regrets – to open her business to serve the spiritual health and wellness needs of her community.  It is Dea's sincere hope that her work through DivineSense might help our community and country begin to heal and unite to create a better existence for humans, animals, and nature.
